Malaysian GBIF Node

Biodiversity data sharing are aimed to be the next big thing not only for the world of biology but also might help in decision making procedure. The fact that the data itself can bring significant changes in so many ways if it was being manipulated can be so intriguing to many biodiversity researchers. Global Biodiversity Information Facility (GBIF) is an organization that focuses on making scientific biodiversity data accessible globally by public. They not only make a system that can easily access or view by public, they also provide tools for researches who have desire to share their efforts in science thus contribute to make the world a better place. The richness of biodiversity in Malaysia’s forest should not being kept unknown without any efforts to share it to the world. Rapid development in socio-economic growth in Malaysia also has raised concern among researchers on how severe it can affect our biodiversity environment. Thus, immediate action must be taken before we will lose all those valuable data. Here in Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Bioinformatics Research Group (BIRG) team members have made an effort to assemble those research data and publish it through GBIF Integrated Publishing Toolkit (IPT). IPT is a tool developed by GBIF for global usage on sharing and publishing their biodiversity data. BIRG has been endorsed by Asian Biodiversity Center in Philippines as the first Malaysia node to publish biodiversity data through GBIF.
